EXEMPTIONS FROM TIME LIMITFor Families

Some families will be exempt from the new 60 month (5-year) welfare time limit. This means that they will be allowed to receive their full cash benefits beyond the 5-year cut-off date.


Your household may be exempt from the 5-year time-limit if:

Cash Safety Net Program

Even if your household is not found to be exempt from the 5-year time-limit, you still may be able to receive continued cash under New York State's "Cash" Safety Net Program!

You May Be Eligible for the "Cash" Safety Net Program if:

bd14565_.gif (852 bytes) The adult member of your household is found to be exempt from work rules for any reason, unless he or she is determined to be abusing illegal substances or engaging in the habitual consumption of alcohol,

OR

bd14565_.gif (852 bytes) An adult in the household is eligible to receive health services through an HIV Special Needs Plan (SNP).

NOTE

*** You may be asked to prove either your entitlement to an exemption from the time limits or your right to continued "cash" safety net assistance. It will be important to obtain written documentation from your physician and/or therapist which contains a diagnosis and a statement that you cannot work because of your condition.***
