Touro College, Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center Position Announcement – Staff Attorney {entry level} Senior Citizens Law Program Touro Law Center seeks a Staff Attorney for a new Senior Citizens Law Program. The program will consist of 2 attorneys and a paralegal, providing legal services and information to the elderly in Suffolk County, New York. The program is funded under Title III-B of the Older Americans Act and will handle cases in the areas of public benefits, health care, housing, homelessness, abuse and exploitation and other matters, particularly those related to the needs of homebound or isolated elderly. Community education programs will be a responsibility of both positions. The Staff Attorney will represent clients in these areas of practice and will be expected to represent clients in administrative proceedings, litigation and other brief service. Although not a clinical education program, the Senior Citizens Law Program will have the benefit of the facilities and expertise of the Law Center’s Elderlaw Clinic and will be located in the Clinical Suite of the Law Center. The Program will have the assistance of law students to provide services. Staff Attorney: Minimum qualifications include a J.D. or L.L.M. from an accredited law school, admission and good standing to practice law in New York, some experience in law practice or a clinic or internship, preferably on behalf of senior citizens, and interest in community education and working with law students. Bilingual ability is desirable. The salary is $50,000. Life insurance and health benefits (with an employee contribution) are provided. The position is available January 1, 2010.
