About the Position: Hiscock Legal Aid seeks an attorney to join our growing Foreclosure Prevention Project (FPP), part of our Civil Program, and to represent homeowners facing foreclosure in a four county region (Onondaga, Oswego, Cortland, and Cayuga) of New York State. We provide advice and counsel, modification application assistant, representation in settlement conferences, and direct representation in litigation to homeowners facing mortgage foreclosure or tax foreclosure. FPP attorneys also provide representation to tenants in properties that are in foreclosure or that have been foreclosed on. The candidate hired for this position will be our third full-time FPP attorney thanks to funding from the New York State Homeowners Protection Program. Our FPP attorneys are supported by a law assistant and a Client Resource Specialist, and work collaboratively with our Landlord/Tenant attorneys to provide high-quality representation in housing matters as part of HLA’s Civil Program.

Qualifications: Admission or pending admission to New York Bar. Strong written and oral advocacy skills. Demonstrated commitment to public-interest law and to indigent defense. Ability to multi-task. Diverse economic, social, and/or cultural experiences.

Salary Transparency: $65,000 to $90,907 annually for attorneys admitted to New York Bar, depending on candidate qualifications and experience.

Standard office hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday from Labor Day through Memorial Day, and 8:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
