FORECLOSURE PREVENTION PARALEGAL

 Rochester, NY- Full time, Non-exempt position

Empire Justice Center, a highly respected, statewide nonprofit law firm, is seeking a Foreclosure Prevention Paralegal to join our team.  This is an opportunity to join one of the most effective organizations serving low-income individuals and families in New York State.

The Position:

The position will be part of the Foreclosure Prevention Unit. The focus of the position will be to serve low-income homeowners who are unable to meet current mortgage obligations and to provide support for the Unit as a paralegal.

 Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct in-depth client and preliminary intake interviews;
  • Analyze household/client budgets;
  • Perform internet research and data collection;
  • Manage and organize physical files for clients;
  • Assist with grant reporting and tracking;
  • Manage the collection and submission of loss mitigation applications;
  • Manage high volumes of information from multiple outside agencies and clients;
  • Provide support for foreclosure prevention staff on litigation and policy projects; and,
  • Respond to calls from clients and outside agencies in an efficient and timely manner.

 Qualifications:

  •  A strong desire to aid low-income homeowners in advocating for the retention of their homes;
  • Solid oral, written, organizational, administrative and computer skills;
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills;
  • Experience with community-based organizations and client outreach a plus;
  • Associates Degree or paralegal certificate, or minimum 2 years of relevant experience; and,
  • Ability to speak and understand Spanish is desired but not required.

 Salary and Benefits:

Salary is commensurate with experience and based on the organization's salary scale.
