Legal Services Inc., the largest provider of civil legal services in Western
New York, seeks applicants for a 6 month temporary paralegal position in
Buffalo, New York.
Description of duties:
Neighborhood
Legal Services seeks an analytical and self-directed individual for a paralegal
position in the area of public benefits law.
The individual will be required to learn extensive regulatory materials
which govern the public assistance, SNAP and emergency assistance
programs. Must be able to apply laws to
facts of presenting cases and to aggressively advocate on behalf of our clients
who are facing utility shut-offs.
In addition,
the paralegal will advocate for emergency assistance benefits, SSI guarantees, dispute
denials of emergency assistance for utility benefits, advocate for HEAP
benefits, and advise clients regarding utility arrears.
Qualifications:
paralegal training or college degree
preferred;
0-3 years' experience required
good communication and writing
skills required;
demonstrated commitment to the
goals and clients of the legal services program;
ability to act as an advocate on
behalf of clients;
Sensitivity to the needs of
financially disadvantaged and disabled persons;
computer knowledge helpful;
Spanish speaking ability helpful
Salary: Depending on experience.
